I am actually from Virginia, so I know the Charlottesville situation very well and absolutely DESPISE the alt right so I BADLY wanted to like this show.

Unfortunately, it is a mess.

A one woman piece that does much too much.

It is well-researched and does a deep dive into the main players at the Unite the Right rally, witnesses, and the court case. The issue is, she herself plays 15-20+ characters (I lost count) that she only introduces for less than 20 seconds each, and tries to remedy this by having a PowerPoint showing the name of the character she is playing, but she switches through them lightning fast so the audience does not have a chance to catch up.

Additionally, she introduces new one-off characters throughout which adds to the jumble.

She mixes multimedia aspects, which at times can be interesting. In this case, she shows "Breaking News" broadcasts from established channels like NBC and CNN but instead of actual broadcasts, they are videos of her acting as a newscaster, which is ironic as what does the alt-right hate the most? Fake news.

Additionally, although the stage acting is quite good, the acting on the videos are noticeably bad.

She also tries to mix in her own story of being discriminated against by her Masters program at UVA.

It is all much too much for an hour show, even a two hour show.

Trim to 3-5 characters and really go in-depth on them and their motivations, and now we have a show.

I am giving it 2 stars because the research was impressive and the direction was well done being that lightning fast.

⭐⭐ 2/5
