Time to join these performers' Covens as they put on shows at Edinburgh Fringe 2024 celebrating a genre of magical women we all love. Edy Hurst's Wonderfull Discoverie of Witches in the Countie of Himself
Talk about an EXCELLENT title! The importance of title at Fringe is paramount, especially to me, and this one is fantastic. Sounds like a Wicked good time!
"Hark and Boo! Recent revelations hath shone a light upon the ancestry of Edy Hurst. What visions await in our dark voyage? And why are the Vengaboys here?" Aug 18-26

Bloody Ballad of Bette Davis
If you ask Joan Crawford, Bette Davis has always been a witch. However, this show asks, what if she also had the witch powers? A musical with a fun mix of old Hollywood and witchy goodness sounds Charm(ed)ing!
"What if Bette Davis were a witch? In 2019, her evangelical daughter, BD Davis, claimed that her mother was filled with demonic forces that gave her power. Piper’s original musical set in 1975, tells the story of how Davis, saddled with bills for an infirm daughter, and now well past her prime, takes a job on the classic cult horror film Burnt Offerings. Following the unprofessional behaviour of pickled actor Oliver Reed, and the neurotic Karen Black, will she use her magical abilities for revenge or re-establish her power as the star of the picture?"

Tim Murray Is Witches
This was a MUST-SEE from 2023! Returning to Edinburgh Fringe 2024, a musical, meets standup, meets audience participation with a Hocus Pocus Focus as Tim Murray writes a love letter to the pop culture witches of his childhood. With original songs (that are STILL stuck in my head) and full green makeup, this show is full-on Fringe.
From the description:
"From The Craft to Wicked to Hocus Pocus, Murray will have you howling at the moon in a tribute to queerness and how we discover our powers once we find our coven. Witches is an hour of stand-up, original comedy songs, drag and, also, he flies. Ok not really, but wouldn't that be sickening?"

The Weird Sisters
No doubt inspired by With Sister classics like Hocus Pocus and Charmed, this musical sounds like a fun new take! From the description: "Brand-new comedy musical The Weird Sisters is centered around three wacky witch sisters – Amaranth, Scarlett and Blush. Desperate to expand the sisterhood, in their attempt to initiate the audience into their coven the spell backfires and they are flung into the human world! Weaved within tongue-in-cheek antics, they learn truths about themselves, the sisterhood and the historical treatment of witches in the human world."

Tam o’ Shanter
How about a dance performance? Adapting Burns's classic into a physical ballet, this show aims to tell the narrative in a refreshing new way. From the description: "Our lively adaptation of the legendary Scots poem by Robert Burns begins in the local tavern. After a raucous ale-fuelled night, Tam stumbles across a terrifying scene of witches and ghostly creatures dancing bewitchingly in Auld Alloway Kirk. Tam yells out, and a frantic chase begins…"

Ben Hart: HeX
Now for a little magic, or spells? WhatReview states, "He is known for his unusual performance style that mixes unusual, original magic with storytelling and theatricality, his performance style having been described as somewhere between Hannibal Lecter and Tim Burton." Hart has appeared in Britain's Got Talent for years and even on America's Got Talent. From the description: "The Fringe's real-life witch is back for his 10th spellbinding year. Internationally acclaimed magician Ben's shows are a unique kind of alchemy. Funny, dark and baffling, Hart's an altogether new species of conjurer... HeX is a curated collection of Ben's favourite and most exciting material from the last decade alongside new ideas fresh from his laboratory, guaranteed to put a spell on you."
