Big sets, large casts, huge budgets, but sometimes all you need is some chairs, two guys, and a guitar.

Orpheus is a smart take on the classic story by having a poet tell the story through the modern day character of Dave. Dave is a classic lad who is looking for more until he meets Eurydice and begins to see in color.

The poet is accompanied by a singer playing guitar and breaking into song at some points, mostly Bruce Springsteen tunes which tie into the plot itself at points.

With no microphones, it was worrying at first how we would be able to hear, but the worries quickly subsided as we became more drawn into the story and the music and left the theatre in tears.

The poet's voice is commanding yet delicate and able to truly convey the emotion in the scene. It is a voice you could listen to for hours on end.

The singer's voice has the tone of a Jack Johnson with stronger chops.

Truly a work of art.
